When you buy a "Southern Yellow Pine" board at the big box store, you are most likely getting Loblolly Pine from a corporate tree farm. The reason the big lumber companies plant Loblolly is that it grows fast, but that fast growth comes at a price. Namely, less density and strength. Our pine boards are milled from native, legendary Shortleaf Pine trees. Shortleaf Pine is renowned for it's strength and durability. When you see a weathered old barn in Southeastern Oklahoma, which has been standing for decades yet is still solid as the day it was nailed together, chances are it was built with Shortleaf Pine lumber. At The 1904 Lumber Company, we harvest Shortleaf Pine logs from trees which are dead, dying, or uprooted in a storm, and mill rugged boards suitable for construction of barns, sheds, and other outbuildings. We saw lumber in small batches to fill orders as they come in. We're not a big lumber yard with huge warehouses. We're just a small family business offering a product which takes you back in time... beautiful, rough-cut native Pine lumber like what you would have seen in 1904.
